LinkedIn plans to add gaming to its platform

LinkedIn, the popular social platform owned by Microsoft, is known for networking, professional knowledge sharing, and recruitment, with over 1 billion users. In a bid to increase user engagement, the company is venturing into the gaming space by introducing puzzle-based games like “Queens”, “Inference”, and “Crossclimb”.

Recent findings from app researchers suggest that LinkedIn is working on implementing a gaming experience where player scores are associated with their workplaces, ranking companies based on employee scores. A LinkedIn spokesperson confirmed the gaming project but did not provide a launch date, mentioning that the platform aims to add fun and deepen relationships through puzzle-based games.

Microsoft, the parent company of LinkedIn, is a major player in the gaming industry, with businesses like Xbox and Activision Blizzard contributing significantly to its revenues. Despite Microsoft’s strong presence in gaming, the connection to LinkedIn’s gaming project remains undisclosed.

Puzzle-based casual games have a strong following among mobile users, and non-gaming platforms like LinkedIn are leveraging this popularity to enhance user engagement. In the past, successful integration of gaming features in social platforms has been observed, although results have varied. LinkedIn has experimented with various features over the years to cater to its professional audience, resulting in a diverse range of tools and services, including online education, publishing, video tools, and creator-focused initiatives.
