Dear SaaStr: When Do You Know It’s Time to Pivot?

Deciding When to Pivot in SaaS

In the SaaS industry, it may be time to pivot when you have a small group of satisfied customers after 9+ months of slow growth.

If you have no customers at all, it’s more of a restart than a pivot.

Sometimes in SaaS, you may be close to offering a product that the market truly desires, but not quite hitting the mark.

You might attract a few customers and work hard to meet their needs, but after 12 to 18 months, you still lack significant demand. Growth is slow, and you may feel stuck at a certain revenue level.

This can be a frustrating phase, but the silver lining is that you are typically on the right track. You may just need to broaden or deepen your product offering to provide more value and address a larger pain point.

Listen to feedback from potential customers and existing clients who are satisfied but not expanding their use of your product. Use this insight to make necessary adjustments and improve customer satisfaction.

By making the right changes, you can achieve greater success in the SaaS market if you are determined enough.
