Apple iPhone is not a monopoly – and you really don’t want the US Government to win its antitrust suit – TechToday

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is attempting to argue that Apple’s iPhone business is a monopoly, which is far from the truth. With a market share of just 57% in the US and roughly 20% globally, the numbers clearly show that it is not a monopoly.

Apple has been criticized for its lack of inclusivity, such as the delay in supporting the Google-backed RCS messaging standard and the limited compatibility of its Apple Watch with Android phones. While RCS support is now being implemented, it is not full integration, and the same goes for smartwatches from Samsung and Google not working on iPhones.

The DOJ seems to be confusing ‘monopoly’ with ‘ecosystem.’ Apple’s full-stack control allows for seamless integration of hardware and software, offering a unique consumer experience. While there are concerns about Apple’s App Store policies and fees, the company has made efforts to address them.

While Apple may not be perfect, the iPhone remains a popular choice for many consumers. The DOJ’s interference in technology decisions could disrupt the relationships that consumers have with tech companies and their products.
